It is one of the most difficult task or duty. It gives you sense of purpose and meaning in life. It gives you strength in yourself, something you never understand until you had children. It is sometimes forgetting who you are. Always feeling like there is never enough of you to go through round. Watching them develop and grow with their own unique personalities.

Motherhood involves the combination of the following for their children:

Emotions - A strong feeling we encounter such as love, anger, ache, joy, hate or fear.

Experiences - Knowledge or skill in a particular activity, which we have gained

as we grow with our children.

Expectations - We dream of what their future

holds & hopes for the best for our children.

Exhaustion - Being extremely tired of doing

things like changing diapers, feeding the baby at 2am, cleaning the house, do the laundry,

cooking meals, washing dishes and so on.

Is Motherhood a Sacrifice or a Privilege?

One writer Karen Rinaldi addressed the question of whether motherhood is a sacrifice or a privilege.

Motherhood a sacrifice. Is to give up (something that you want to keep) especially in order to get or do something to help someone. (Merriam Webster)

Motherhood a privilege. A special opportunity to do something that makes you proud. (Merriam Webster)

For me motherhood is more on sacrifice. Truly it is an honor and privilege to become a mother. Raising children is a great joy and privilege to us. It is the right given to a mother or dictate what a mother should be and should do. But I believe most moms are self-sacrificing for their children. It is the price for having children. We expected to sacrifice our time, aims, ambition and self-use in a higher purpose.

For almost 22 years of being a mother, I sacrificed my time because of my full time work in the office not to be with my children every day five days a week or even more. I have to do that in order for me to help my husband in attending to our expenses. I couldn’t even attend to school meetings, distribution of report cards and other school programs. Sometimes I have to attend seminars during weekend, instead of having fun in the beach with my children.

Some mothers sacrificed day in and day out to stay home with her children, homeschooling from kindergarten to graduation, cooking for them, cleaning up, and doing all the household chores. We’re all willing to sacrifice some of the temporal pleasures and entertainment in order for us to become the kind of mom to our children. So whatever we sacrifice, we offer ourselves for our children.
